CSense Run-time Properties dialog box

The Proficy CSense Run-time Properties dialog box allows you to configure properties that affect how action objects are run.

Accessing this dialog box

You can access this dialog box as follows in the CSense Runtime Manager:

  1. Click the Action menu or right click any of the Action Objects in the left-hand pane.

  2. Click Proficy CSense Run-time Properties to open up the dialog box by that name.

Editing property values

To edit any of the properties in this dialog box:

  1. Open up the Run-time Properties dialog box.

  2. Make any edits you want to make.

  3. Click OK to close the dialog box and apply changes.

Once these settings have been changed, the new settings are applied to all new and existing Action Objects. It is not necessary to restart the Action Object Services service.

Properties: reference

Properties are grouped within the dialog box according to the Action Objects affected:

NOTE: Settings applicable to Scheduled Action Objects also have an impact on Process+ Action Objects (since these make use of Scheduled Action Objects).

Event-based Action Objects

 Property

Description

Values

Concurrent execution limit

To maintain an acceptable level of performance for the system, the number of concurrently executing action objects is limited by this property.

This can be set to any integer from 1 to 16384.

By default, this property is set to 4.

The setting used should take processing power into consideration. It is recommended that you use a limit equal to the number of core processors available.

Scheduled Action Objects

Property

Description

Values

Concurrent execution limit

To maintain an acceptable level of performance for the system, the number of concurrently executing action objects is limited by this property.

This can be set to any integer from 1 to 16384.

By default, this property is set to 2.

The setting used should take processing power into consideration. It is recommended that you use a limit equal to the number of core processors available.

On Schedule Error

An error may occur during execution of a Scheduled Action Object, such as when a data source connection is dropped.

In the event of an error, the options available determine what happens to the execution of the Scheduled Action Object.

  • Retry indefinitely- If this option is selected, in the event of an error, the application tries to execute the Scheduled Action Objects until the execution succeeds.

Select this option if you want the application to execute the schedule without skipping in the event of an error.

  • Stop Action Object after retry attempts- If this option is selected, in the event of an error, the application attempts to execute the Scheduled Action Object for the number of attempts that you enter. For example, if you enter 3, the application attempts to execute the schedule three times before it stops the execution if the error persists after the three attempts.

Select this option if you do not want the application to retry scheduling Action Objects in the event of an error, and you want to troubleshoot the error first.

This can be set to any integer from 0 to 16384. If you set this value to 0, in the event of an error, the execution of the Action Object is stopped immediately.

  • Skip schedule after retry attempts- If this option is selected, in the event of an error, the application attempts to execute the Schedule for the number of attempts that you enter. For example, if you enter 3, the application attempts to execute the schedule three times before skipping it and moving on to the next scheduled if the error persists after the three attempts.

Select this option if you want the application to move on with the next schedule if the error persists after retry attempts, resulting in faster data processing.

This can be set to any integer from 0 to 16384. If you set this value to 0, in the event of an error, the execution of the Action Object is skipped immediately and moved to the next schedule.

Based on the option that you select, you will see the information about the Scheduled Action Object on the process window. For more information, see What to Interpret about the Process Information.

Real-time Action Objects

Property

Description

Values

Maintain action object health

This property determines whether or not Real-time Action Objects are restarted if they have crashed or become unresponsive.

If this property is selected:

  • Real-time Action Objects are restarted.

If this property is cleared:

  • Real-time Action Objects are not restarted.

  • In this case, the Action Object needs to be removed and redeployed.

  • This is the default behavior.

In either case, the action taken is logged to the CSense event log.

CSense Database Access

Property

Description

Values

Enable SQL Server Login

This property determines whether or not CSense Database Access is allowed using the displayed SQL Server Login username and configurable password.

SQL Authentication must be enabled on the SQL Server if CSense Database Access is required. See the "Getting Started with Proficy CSense" guide for more information on enabling CSense data to be read by third party applications.

If this property is selected:

  • Third party access is enabled.

If this property is cleared:

  • Third party access is disabled.

SQL Server Login

Displays the Login name for third party access to the CSense Data.

The Set Password button is used to set the password associated with the SQL Server Login. When pressed, a dialog will open prompting for a new password.

A password change will be applied immediately to the server if a valid password is supplied. This is in contrast to other settings that will only be applied when the OK button is clicked.

Name of the SQL Server Login

NOTE: The CSense Database Access properties does not impact Action Objects.
